What Remains on Walls
All you see in the current exhibition is the result of my wanderings in the old neighborhoods of central Tehran from end of 2013 to the mid-2015. I am fond of walking in old Tehran, and I love photography. Sometimes I got fatigued with what I saw, but most of the time I got excited by their beauty, charm and mysteriousness.
It was very interesting to use all of this texts, shapes, colors, size, and texture and see their relationships with the walls, windows and the basically everything that could be used as a surface to write on. As I went further I was more and more surprised with the inner energy and movement of the pieces. I could see that there is very little difference between what I was seeing on the walls and an art work from a famous artist.
So I decided to take only a piece of these shapes and textures and share them with others. Just like the way I have been doing in the past three decades as graphic designer: framing beauty.
Most of the images are the result of such approaches from citizens, without the creators knowing about what they do. Although some of them show artistic taste that has gone awry.
I think such creations by citizens can be the subject of a new research by those who seek to understand how and why such behaviors happen. Or, there might have been some, of which I'm not aware.
In this exhibition I show works that have very little thing to do with line and writing and have more abstract quality. I wanted the viewers to examine and find the secrets and codes hidden in them.
